337 Dogs get together to take Guinness World Record®
PETCO™ & the San Diego Padres Set World Record At “Dog Days of Summer” Event
PETCO™, along with the San Diego Padres, are delighted to announce that they are now Guinness World Record Holders. They set the new record for having the most dogs present in a pet costume parade. The officials from Guinness World Records were present at the PETCO Park annual ‘Dog Days of Summer’ jamboree, along with the 337 dogs that were to set the new record, and verified the record on the spot.
The yearly infield costume parade was led by the world famous skateboarding pooch known as Tillman, and the dogs paraded around in their Padres spirit. The history making event took place on Wednesday July 27, at the same time as the San Diego Padres were taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Freddie Hoff, an adjudicator for Guinness World Records said that it had been an amazing experience to see such a record attempted, and he was delighted that it had been a success. He added his congratulations on behalf of Guinness World records.
Greg Seremetis, the VP of marketing at PETCO, said that his company were passionate about dogs playing an active part in every aspect of our life, and that due to their partnership with the Padres they were able to have this annual celebration and invite hundreds of dogs to the ballpark. He also said that they had been more than happy to sponsor tickets so that 2 pet parents could attend per dog in the hope of rallying the community for the record attempt, and thanked all who attended.
Dogs also had the opportunity to participate in a pre-game “tail” gate party and prior to the on-field pet parade prizes were awarded to the costumed dogs in a variety of categories. In the spirit of PETCO’s commitment to “Think Adoption First,” a local PETCO adoption partner was in attendance to educate the public on the importance of pet adoption and help find pets a loving home.
