The breed is named after a place called Billy in the French Poitou, the residence of the Erstzüchters Hublot Rivault. This person was the founder of the Billy breed; however the original dogs that created this breed are extinct being the Cerise, the Montaimboeuf and the Larry.
The Billy was also threatened with extinction after World War II, and only two specimens survived the war. This extremely small gene pool makes the breed very prone to hereditary diseases.
Description
The Billy is a well-built, powerful dog up to 70 cm in height and a weight of around 33 kg with smooth, short hair in pure white, or white with light orange or lemon coloured spots or mantle.
The drop ears are of medium length, set a bit high for a French hound.
