Donskoy or Don sphinx is an extremely rare breed of cat, initially recognized by the International Feline Federation in May 2006.

The first cat of this breed was born in 1987 in Rostov-on-Don (hence the name: sphinx above the Don River).

Donskoy cats sphinxes are bare. They are characterized by strong bones and lots of wrinkles. Cats of this breed have highly placed ears, which are slightly transparent to the light and curly whiskers.   They can be found in many varieties of color.  Cats are born with fine hair, which disappears before the cat is one year old.  What is distinctive in sphinxes from other cats is their increased body temperature. They are very calm, friendly and people-oriented.

Temperament and character

Sphynx Donskoy have an unusual attachment to their owner.  It is cheerful, gentle, affectionate and friendly, willing to sit on laps, but do not like excessive petting.  They have a balanced character and a moderate temperament which is curious and ubiquitous. They adapt well in a group of cats.
