Dog illness
If your dog is ill, there are two options before you. You can either visit your vet or treat your dog or else you can give your dog his medicine which can be either a pill or a liquid. However, if you are giving your dog his medicine, there are certain methods in which you have to give him his medicine. You might have trouble in giving him the medicine and on the sites you get to know how easily you can administer medicine for your pet without any trouble.
Method of giving the pill or a tablet
Now, this can be a tricky one for you. There are not so many food products which some of the dog lovers have not tried to pop a pill and to give it a try to get the dog eat it. Dogs do have a great smelling sense, and they can sense that there is something fishy inside the food and for this they might not eat the food.
You can try hot dogs and peanut butter which are popular food for your dog. Cheese, cottage cheese can work well. But, if it is very obligatory that your dog has his pill, you will have to take some steps. This includes you to manually open your dog’s jaws apart and apply firm pressure it’s either side.
During this, your hand should be over the bridge of the dog’s nose and the thumb and forefinger on his either side. Then you should tuck the pill way back at the base of his tongue. After this step, hold your dog’s’ muzzle closed as he may try to throw the pill by coughing it out. So, make sure that you bring his head backwards after inserting the pill and blow into his nose while simultaneously stroking his throat.
However, if you are inexperienced, then you can simply medicate your dog with the help of another person. One person can hold the dog, while the other person applies the medicine. There are specific tips which you can adapt to. These are as follows:
Liquid medication
You can ask your vet for specific large syringes and without the needles. You can get such syringes from the chemist store too. These syringes are marked on the sides which is to make the measuring easy and for getting the liquid medicine in the right place. For this, you will have to raise the muzzle of the dog and lift her lip on one side. Then after this, ease the syringe tip to the back of the throat and release the liquid in a slow stream.
Ear medicine
If your dog has a ear infection, you can lay a large towel across your lap and persuade your dog to put his head on top of it. Then you will have to gently massage his head and encourage him too. After this, you have to apply the ear drops and massage the base of the ear very gently.
