With the advancement of the veterinary medicine, the vets are able to support many animals that are facing with serious problems. There are a number of animals who have problems like disabilities, chronic diseases and other conditions which can require special care and attention. Animals are remarkable with their ability to recover and adapt to the life with a disability. It is much harder for a person to cope up with his own disability and the animals however do live their life with a disability and they do get over their inability to walk or run.

A disability does not mean euthanasia for the dogs or any such animals. Most of the dogs with special needs can live quite well with the assistance of their owners and some change due to the surrounding environment. As a person learns to care for his disabled pet, he gets to see every minute detail about his pet having disability, about his accomplishment and daily struggle. There is a realization that even with a disability an animal can move forward and accept life with full energy and enjoyment than simply being pessimistic.

Less needs which are obvious

Some of the common problems which dogs live with are almost invisible to a human eye. These include diabetes, kidney failure, cancer, heart disease, seizure and such developmental problems. These problems can impact the quality life of the animal, though they are not recognized commonly as a disability. All of the conditions can be tackled with by the pet owner together wit the help of the veterinarian. For instance, kidney failure can be a life threatening if it is not treated on time. However, it can be managed with a prescription diet and with providing the dog with lots of water to drink. The pet owners can compensate for the pet’s lower kidney function and make sure that they eat less protein related food.

Heart disease

Heart disease, on the other hand, can be managed with a certain medication which can equalize the dog’s fluid balance and with proper monitored exercise. Further, diabetes too can be well controlled with proper diet, monitoring blood sugar, weight control and exercise. Seizures are reduced with prescription medication. Dogs with any of these conditions often tend to live well and with total support from their pet owners and veterinarians. The owner and the vet work together and change the lifestyle of the dog, his environment and even his diet and medication.

There are many dogs that face with mental retardation problems too and they do quite well with extra care and attention from their owners. The results can vary depending on the condition of the pet. What’s more, arthritis is also one of the common pet ailments. It can affect around five million dogs. To the pet owners, this can be a devastating experience as the dog may face lots of pain and this can keep it inactive and depressed most of the time. However, Arthritis does not mean that a dog has to live in total pain.
