If pet experts are to be believed, Kate Middleton’s pet Cocker Spaniel will be as stress as the bride-to-be herself. Apparently the pooch will be picking up on the pre wedding nerves of his mistress and will have the jitters himself.
To relieve his nervousness, and that of the Royal Corgis too, the leading animal healthcare company Ceva are sending over a supply of their stress relieving DAP collars for the royal dogs. These collars, which are endorsed by the Dogs Trust, provide a synthetic version of the pheromone which is used to appease and calm dogs. They are used to help dogs in a variety of stressful situations.
Ceva haven’t forgotten about our feline friends, the Feliway collar reproduces the feline pheromone which cats use to leave their mark so they know they can return safely. A spokesman for Ceva says that animals are very in tune with their owners’ emotions and react to stress and changes of circumstance. Weddings are particularly stressful anyway, without the added pressure of marrying a prince.
“In the days leading up to the ceremony, Otto may not get the attention he is used to, which in turn will cause some anguish. To help him – and the Queen’s Corgi’s who will need to cope with an influx of visitors – we are sending a batch of DAP collars.
“It’s just a pity we haven’t anything that will help Kate’s nerves!”
The spokesman added that, in addition to the Royal Household, dog and cat owners staging street parties to celebrate the Royal Wedding must “cater” for their pets too, particularly with the likelihood of firework displays.
Below are a number of tips cat and dog owners can follow:
Before The Wedding
- Prepare a ‘den’ for your dog, so that he has somewhere to hide during the day and evening. Encourage him to use it by hiding healthy food treats or toys there. If your dog hides in a corner or under a bed, leave him alone and do not try to coax him out. This ‘bolthole’ is where he will feel most secure and must be accessible at all times. You can further help create this comforting ‘den’ for your dog by using a plug in DAP® Diffuser + DAP® Spray
- Make sure you cat has access to its preferred room during the party and can get away from everything should it all be too much. Feliway® Diffuser and Feliway® Spray can help
- Make sure your pet is microchipped. If they do escape, frightened, confused animals can easily get lost
The Day Of The Wedding,
- Ensure your dog is taken out for a walk early in the morning before the party begins and early evening before any fireworks start
- Draw curtains to reduce the noise from outside and play music or have the TV on to help mask the noise of the party and fireworks
