Usually from experience every act owner will agree that it is more difficult to train a cat as compared to that of training of a dog. The reason being that cats are fiercely independent animals but usually dogs are mushier and prefer human company thus also they are faster learners. However we are here to discuss the learning ability of a domestic cat. Cats do not learn by words or acts but they learn through experience. For them if the experience is sweet and good then they prefer learning from the experience but if the experience proves to be bitter or scary they shy away from the particular activity in future. So the trick is to make the activity fun and pleasurable for the cat then he will be totally expected to devote himself to the said activity which you want him to learn.
The senses of the cats specially those of smell and hearing are very well developed and are lot more sensitive compared to that of humans. Hence they learn and execute most of their activities through these two senses. Therefore we must try to train our cats only those activities that they will be able to perceive through these sense organs.
A domestic cat should be trained how and where to answer to his natures call. In the ancient times when the cats were not domesticated at that the mother cat used to cover up both her and her young ones feces with the earth as this helped them in camouflaging from their enemies. However the kittens we have at home also needs to learn their share of manners. This can be achieved by first making a litter box which is slightly filled with litter; once the kitten is fed it should be stimulated to urinate at this time take the kitten to the litter box and when the kittens defecate expression of admiration is required. This admiration encourages the cat to repeat the act after every meal. Once the litter has been passed or the kitten urinates rub his genitals with a moist but soft cloth to clean him. The kittens should strictly prevented from having access to the litter box at any other time except when he wants to pass urine or litter in other words he should be avoided from playing in the litter box.
Second if the cat or the kitten has a special resentment to her vet and for her even if the journey sucks then does not force her in to the basket and take her to the vet as in the long run it is of no use. Alternative methods like summoning the vet to your place might be a lot better though it might cost you little extra bucks. Also avoiding taking the cat to the vet will also prove detrimental to her well being. Be patient with your pet.
You can try the positive reinforcement method as rewards always entice human beings and pets alike.
